The excavator is on site and will be digging our new sewer and water lines this week. We may be experiencing short water and sewer outages while the new lines are hooked up. Our staff at the Southside Branch are becoming accustomed to loud machinery, vibrating desks (from the compactor in the parking lot construction) and a constantly changing work environment. Everyone is taking the disruption in stride (good thing, too since this project is another year or so from completion!) and with good humor.
The parking lot at the drive up is progressing nicely and interior work is coming right along. We hope to have that portion of the project completed and open for business in June. Our new driveup will feature the latest in video technology—you will be able to see the teller and he or she will be able to see you. PLUS, we’re double stacking the tubes in the drive up to double our capacity and shorten your wait time (just like Russell and Reserve Street). We will even have a “commercial” tube to accommodate members with larger cash/check/coin deposits. (Standard drive up tubes are designed to carry minimal weight, while commercial drive up tubes can handle larger transactions that might include coin.) A drive up ATM and night drop will be located in the lane closest to the building. A walk up ATM and walk up teller tube will be available on the front of the
building. There will be no lobby services at the new drive up facility. We will continue to serve members in the lobby of the larger building (with a temporary entrance off Dore Lane) until the new building is completed around this time next year. So, if you need to chat with a loan officer, or open a new account, or run some coin through our coin counter, you will still be able to do so throughout the construction process.

I have a stupid question. With all the great progress made with the Platinum status building on Russell, what steps are being taken with the current remodeling of the Brooks/Dore Lane building? What is being done with all the asphalt dug up? Why did you take out the beautiful trees?
I believe the aim of our bank is sustainability. Are these issues being addressed in the remodel process, and if so, how? Curious, only.

Unfortunately, the trees had to come out, as they are in the location of our new building and parking area. If you happen to be at the Southside Branch in the next few weeks, stop in and take a look at the plans for the new building and the remodels of the drive up next door and the current building. Check out the blog post from April 13th for more details about how we are reusing the trees and future plans for foliage on the site.
While we are not seeking LEED certification on this project, we are using many of the lessons we learned from our Russell Street project. For instance, all enamels, stains, paints and primers will be well below LEED standards for VOCs. All windows will be Low-E double paned to minimize energy loss via conduction. All of the red iron to be used in the project is 100% recycled. Low flow water closets and urinals will be used to save on water consumption. Natural groundwater cooling will be used to cool the building. The heat generated by the computer server room will heat the domestic hot water using a de-superheater. And much much much much more….Keep an eye on this blog as we’ll be talking about the many other “green” aspects of this building as they are implemented and installed.
