Here at the Missoula Federal Credit Union we have been cutting down on printed reports.  We had our staff take a look at each report that is printed on a monthly basis and decide if it was really needed, at least in paper format.  If it was deemed not necessary, it was sent back to the IT Department and they would eliminate this from the monthly report printing process and instead put in our electronic database where it can be viewed in digital form if needed.

Since we started this several months ago, we have eliminated many reports that did not need to be printed. Those reports total approximately
41,758 PAGES of greenbar paper per year. We will be saving at least that for the upcoming year, not to mention every year afterwards!
In addition to the paper savings, for every ton of paper not used, it saves:

  • 3.5 cubic yards of landfill space
  • 17 thirty foot (pulp) trees
  • 7,000 gallons of water
  • 380 gallons of oil
  • 4100 kwh of energy
  • $670/year in paper costs

…Not to mention the storage space requited for the greenbar reports that were printed and filed!
